Uniting College Induction Service

Last Friday night was my formal induction service onto the Faculty at Uniting College.

The service was led by the Moderator, Dr Deidre Palmer along with Principal, Rev Dr Steve Taylor.

The liturgy was robust and pithy. Here’s a couple of excerpts:

By serving in the Uniting Church you are reaffirming your baptism, declaring your allegiance to the crucified and risen Lord and seeking to be obedient to God’s will.

Do you confess Jesus Christ as Lord?
I do.

Do you receive the witness to Christ in the holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments; and do you undertake to proclaim from these, the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed?
I do.

Will you seek to live and work within the faith and unity of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church?
I will.

Learning from the Confessional Documents of the Uniting Church in Australia will you diligently teach Christ’s peoplereminding them of the centrality of the person and work of Jesus Christ and the grace which justifies them through faith?
With God’s help, I will.

ACT OF INDUCTION (The candidate kneels)

By the Holy Spirit, Lord, strengthen your servant, Tim and set his heart on fire with love for you.

Increase in him your gifts of grace:
the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and wonder in your presence,
the spirit of joy and delight in your service,
now and for ever.

The whole gathered congregation then sung the Aaronic Blessing:

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you,
and be gracious unto you:
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
and give you peace.

In the name of Jesus Christ and by the authority of the Presbytery of South Australia, we declare that Tim Hein is inducted as Director of Christian Education and Discipleship
